Richard Schickel is an acclaimed film critic, documentary filmmaker, and movie historian. He is the author, co-author, or editor of over 36 books, among themThe Disney Version; D. W. Griffith: An American Life; Brando: A Life in Our Times;You Must Remember This: The Warner Bros. Story; Clint Eastwood: A Retrospective; and most recently,Conversations with Scorsese. He has also produced some 30 documentaries, includingWoody Allen: A Life in Film; Scorsese on Scorsese; and The Eastwood Factor. Schickel was a film critic forLife and Time for 43 years, received an honorary doctorate from the American Film Institute, and has held a Guggenheim Fellowship. He has also been awarded the British Film Institute Book Prize, the Maurice Bessy prize for film criticism, and the National Board of Review's William K. Everson Award for his contributions to film history. He lives in Los Angeles, CA.
