Kathryn Otoshi is the acclaimed author of One, winner of 20 awards, including the E.B. White Read Aloud Honor Book and the Teacher's Choice Award. One is an anti-bullying book which introduces colors, numbers, and counting while playing on larger themes of acceptance and tolerance. Her book, Zero, is about self-esteem and finding value in ourselves. Her most recent book, Two, (Fall 2014) is about friendship and reconciliation. Co-author and illustrator of Beautiful Hands, she speaks all over the country, using her character-building number books to inspire children of all ages.

Bret Baumgarten (1970-2014) was born and raised in the SF Bay Area where he lived with his South African wife, Deborah, and their two children, Noah and Sofie. His daily question to Sophie, "What will your beautiful hands do today," sparked this book, which he hoped would inspire his daughter, and all children, to use their beautiful hands for goodness, and to achieve their dreams. This was his first book.
