Julie Flett is an award-winning Cree-Metis author, illustrator and artist. She has received many awards, including the 2016 American Indian Library Association Award for Best Picture Book for Little You, written by Richard Van Camp (Orca Books), and the Canadian Christie Harris Illustrated Children's Literature Award in 2015 for Dolphins SOS, written by Roy Miki (Tradewind Books) and in 2017 for My Heart Fills with Happiness, written by Monique Gray Smith (Orca Books), and was nominated for the Governor Generalâs Award for Childrenâs Literature for her book Owls See Clearly at Night (Lii Yiiboo Nayaapiwak lii Swer): A Michif Alphabet (Lâalphabet di Michif). Her own Wild Berries (Simply Read Books) was chosen as Canada's First Nation Communities Read title selection for 2014-2015.
David A. Robertson (he/him/his) is the 2021 recipient of the Writerâs Union of Canadaâs Freedom to Read Award. He is the author of more than 25 books for young readers including When We Were Alone, which won a Governor Generalâs Literary Award and was a finalist for the TD Canadian Childrenâs Literature Award. Davidâs most recent works include the graphic novel Breakdown (The Reckoner Rises, Vol. 1), middle grade novel The Barren Grounds, childrenâs book On the Trapline, and memoir Black Water: Family, Legacy, and Blood Memory. He is also the writer and host of the podcast KÃwew, which won the 2021 RTDNA Prairie Region Award for Best Podcast.
A sought-after speaker and educator, David is a member of Norway House Cree Nation. He lives in Winnipeg.
Julie Flett is a Swampy Cree and Red River Métis author, illustrator and artist. She has received numerous awards for her picture books, including the Governor Generalâs Award for When We Were Alone and On The Trapline (written by David A. Robertson), the American Indian Library Association Award for Little You (written by Richard Van Camp) and a BolognaRagazzi Award special mention for We Sang You Home (also written by Richard Van Camp). She is the three-time recipient of the Christie Harris Illustrated Childrenâs Literature Award. Her picture book Birdsong was awarded the TD Canadian Childrenâs Literature Award for 2020 and Wild Berries was chosen as Canadaâs First Nation Communities Read title selection for 2014-2015.
