In each program, Tony follows a route that allows him to explore on foot both the history of a particularly colorful historical period or event and the spectacular landscape, including it's geographical features, in which those events unfolded. These walks are proper expeditions with each one taking Tony a week. Along with the various experts he encounters, Tony reveals and discovers the places and their hidden stories that ordinary walkers and ramblers might otherwise miss.
