In Brokenwood, New Zealand, the residents live a bucolic existence amid picturesque scenery and small-town camaraderie. But the peace of this seemingly quiet country town is frequently pierced by fatal passions. Stepping in to solve these mystifying murders are unconventional DSS Mike Shepherd (Neill Rea); his by-the-book partner, Detective Kristin Sims (Fern Sutherland); and newcomer DC Daniel Chalmers (Jarod Rawiri), who's eager to learn the ropes. In Series 8, the droll team of detectives investigate a dying woman placed inside an Egyptian sarcophagus, a musician seemingly killed by sound, a neighborly dispute turned deadly, the world champion of the curious sport of spoofing found impaled on a fountain, a cowgirl gunned down over a gold feud, and the possibility of Brokenwood's first serial killer.
