- The full-body fat fix : the science-based 7-day plan to cool inflammation, heal your gut, and build a healthier, leaner you! / by Perrine, Stephen,author.;
Includes bibliographical references (pages 236-248) and index."Discover a groundbreaking new way of eating that can reverse inflammation, heal your gut, and improve your overall health, fitness and athletic performance -- in just one week -- while setting you on the path to easy, sustainable weight loss for life! Journalist and bestselling author Stephen Perrine reveals how in his intensely researched, yet simple and engaging new book, The Full-Body Fat Fix. With a unique blend of humor and science, Perrine explains how chronic inflammation and an unhealthy microbiome are the underlying causes of weight gain, and how classic 'dieting' strategies -- like cutting calories, eliminating certain foods or only eating during specific times -- actually undermine our weight-loss goals. The new science of weight management is more exciting and delicious than we ever imagined. Simply by eating a greater variety of plant-based foods -- at least 30 different plants each week, including vegetables, fruits, whole grains, seeds, nuts, herbs and legumes -- and not getting stuck with the same old 'healthy' foods again and again, science shows we can bring healing back to our guts, turn off the mechanisms that cause inflammation and reduce our risk of obesity and its related diseases. In Perrine's hands, this trick is as easy as it is delicious, starting with 'The Fire Fightin' Five,' a yummy combination of five meals and snacks (including pizza!) that will give you 30 unique plants -- effortlessly! And with his 7-Day Challenge, you'll be able to track and maximize your dietary goals -- and make a game out of healthy eating and weight loss. (How many different plants can you eat? Can you squeeze in more than your friends and family?) To make it even easier, dozens of recipes populate the book, each one as enticing as the next. Weight loss has never been as fun, as delicious, or as easy to enjoy"--

- Better off dead : post-traumatic stress disorder and the Canadian Armed Forces / by Doucette, Fred.;
Fred Doucette always wanted to be a soldier. In the 1960s he joined the Canadian Armed Forces and served in Cyprus in the 1970s and <U+2019>80s and Bosnia in the 1990s. When he returned home to New Brunswick in 1999 after his last overseas tour, he was diagnosed with severe chronic post-traumatic stress disorder. Eventually released from the army, Fred found a position with the Operational Stress Injury Social Support (OSISS) program, where he supported serving soldiers and veterans for ten years. Better Off Dead chronicles Fred's efforts in helping to rehabilitate and support soldiers and veterans suffering from what the military terms "operational stress injuries." We meet Ted, saved from a suicide attempt by a timely phone call; Bob, at wit's end and reluctantly seeking help to overcome severe PTSD; Roger, caught in a cycle of violence and drug and alcohol abuse; and Jane, diagnosed with PTSD after having been sexually assaulted while on a tour of duty in Afghanistan. These accounts are raw, desperate, and often angry, but as Doucette shows, there is hope and real progress for those able to obtain proper diagnosis and treatment. Fred Doucette is the author of the memoir Empty Casing, He lives in Fredericton, New Brunswick.LSC

- All our relations : finding the path forward / by Talaga, Tanya,author.;
Includes bibliographical references."Every single year in Canada, one-third of all deaths among Indigenous youth are due to suicide. Studies indicate youth between the ages of ten and nineteen, living on reserve, are five to six times more likely to commit suicide than their peers in the rest of the population. Suicide is a new behaviour for First Nations people. There is no record of any suicide epidemics prior to the establishment of the 130 residential schools across Canada. Bestselling and award-winning author Tanya Talaga argues that the aftershocks of cultural genocide have resulted in a disturbing rise in youth suicides in Indigenous communities in Canada and beyond. She examinees the tragic reality of children feeling so hopeless they want to die, of kids perishing in clusters, forming suicide pacts, or becoming romanced by the notion of dying - a phenomenon that experts call "suicidal ideation." She also looks at the rising global crisis, as evidenced by the high suicide rates among the Inuit of Greenland and Aboriginal youth in Australia. Finally, she documents suicide prevention strategies in Nunavut, Seabird Island, and Greenland; Facebook's development of AI software to actively link kids in crisis with mental health providers; and the push by First Nations leadership in Northern Ontario for a new national health strategy that could ultimately lead communities towards healing from the pain of suicide. Based on her Atkinson Fellowship in Public Policy series, Tanya Talaga's 2018 Massey Lectures is a powerful call for action and justice for Indigenous communities and youth."--
