- NPR's podcast start up guide : create, launch, and grow a podcast on any budget / by Weldon, Glen,author.; National Public Radio (U.S.),sponsoring body.;
- Includes bibliographical references and index.From NPR comes the definitive guide to podcasting, featuring step-by-step advice on how to find a unique topic, tell the best stories, and engage the most listeners, as well as the secrets that will take a podcast to the next level. Whoever you are, whatever you love, there's a podcast audience waiting for you, and in today's booming audio storytelling landscape, it's never been easier to share your voice with the world. But while the barrier to entry for podcast production is relatively low (just the cost of a mic and a laptop), the learning curve is steep -- and quality matters. That's where NPR comes in. In NPR's Podcast Start Up Guide, Glen Weldon draws on NPR's extensive educational materials and army of talent -- from recognizable hosts, such as Guy Raz (How I Built This), Gene Demby (Code Switch), Linda Holmes (Pop Culture Happy Hour), and Yowei Shaw (Invisibilia), to indispensable behind-the-scenes players, such as producers, engineers, and editors -- to guide aspiring podcasters through the conception, creation, and launch of a podcast. Part master class, part candid informational interview with the best in the business, this book is a must-read for anyone who wants to make their dream of starting a podcast a reality.

- The four horsemen : the conversation that sparked an atheist revolution / by Hitchens, Christopher,author.; Dawkins, Richard,1941-author.; Harris, Sam,1967-author.; Dennett, D. C.(Daniel Clement),author.; Fry, Stephen,1957-writer of foreword.;
- "At the dawn of the new atheist movement, the thinkers who became known as "the four horsemen," the heralds of religion's unravelling--Christopher Hitchens, Richard Dawkins, Sam Harris, and Daniel Dennett--sat down over cocktails for a filmed discussion. The video of the enthralling, path breaking evening that followed was released on YouTube and soon went viral. This is intellectual inquiry at its best: sincere and probing, funny and unpredictable, reminding us just how varied and colorful the threads of modern atheism are. Now, this landmark event is being published for the first time. The living participants, Dawkins, Harris, and Dennett, have all contributed new material to mark the evolution of their own thinking and highlight particularly resonant aspects of this epic exchange. Each of these men contends with the most fundamental questions of human existence as they challenge each other to articulate their own stance on god and religion, cultural criticism, spirituality without religion, debate with people of faith, and living an ethical life"--

- Tsqelmucwílc : the Kamloops Indian Residential School--resistance and a reckoning / by Haig-Brown, Celia,1947-author.; Fred, Randy,author.; Gottfriedson, Garry,1954-author.; Container of (work):Haig-Brown, Celia,1947-Resistance and renewal.;
- Includes bibliographical references and index."The tragic and shameful story of Indigenous erasure and genocide at the Kamloops Indian Residential School in Canada. In May 2021, the world was shocked by news of the detection of 215 unmarked graves on the grounds of the former Kamloops Indian Residential School in British Columbia, Canada. Ground-penetrating radar confirmed the deaths of students as young as three in the infamous residential school system, which systematically removed children from their families and brought them to the schools. At these Christian-run, government-supported institutions, they were subjected to physical, mental, and sexual abuse while their Indigenous languages and traditions were stifled and denounced. The egregious abuses suffered in residential schools across the continent caused--as the 2021 discoveries confirmed--death for too many and a multigenerational legacy of trauma for those who survived. "Tsqelmucwílc" (pronounced cha-CAL-mux-weel) is a Secwepemc phrase loosely translated as "We return to being human again." Tsqelmucwílc is the story of those who survived the Kamloops Indian Residential School (KIRS), based on the 1988 book Resistance and Renewal, a groundbreaking history of the school and the first book on residential schools ever published in Canada. Tsqelmucwílc includes the original text as well as new material by the original book's author, Celia Haig-Brown; essays by Secwepemc poet and KIRS survivor Garry Gottfriedson and Nuu-chah-nulth elder and residential school survivor Randy Fred; and first-hand reminiscences by other survivors of KIRS, as well as their children, on their experience and the impact of their trauma throughout their lives. Read both within and outside the context of the grim 2021 discoveries, Tsqelmucwílc is a tragic story in the history of Indigenous peoples of the indignities suffered at the hands of their colonizers, but it is equally a remarkable tale of Indigenous survival, resilience, and courage."--

- Ian Fleming : the complete man / by Shakespeare, Nicholas,1957-author.;
- Includes bibliographical references and index."A fresh portrait of the man behind James Bond, and his enduring impact, by an award-winning biographer with unprecedented access to the Fleming family papers. Ian Fleming's greatest creation, James Bond, has had an enormous and ongoing impact on our culture. What Bond represents about ideas of masculinity, the British national psyche and global politics has shifted over time, as has the interpretation of the life of his author. But Fleming himself was more mysterious and subtle than anything he wrote. Ian's childhood with his gifted brother Peter and his extraordinary mother set the pattern for his ambition to be "the complete man," and he would strive for the means to achieve this "completeness'"all his life. Only a thriller writer for his last twelve years, his dramatic personal life and impressive career in Naval Intelligence put him at the heart of critical moments in world history, while also providing rich inspiration for his fiction. Exceptionally well connected, and widely travelled, from the United States and Soviet Russia to his beloved Jamaica, Ian had access to the most powerful political figures at a time of profound change. Nicholas Shakespeare is one of the most gifted biographers working today. His talent for uncovering material that casts new light on his subjects is fully evident in this masterful, definitive biography. His unprecedented access to the Fleming archive and his nose for a story make this a fresh and eye-opening picture of the man and his famous creation."--

- Starkweather : the untold story of the killing spree that changed America / by MacLean, Harry N.,author.;
- Includes bibliographical references."On January 21st, 1958, Charles Starkweather and his fourteen-year-old girlfriend Caril Ann Fugate changed the course of crime in the United States when they murdered her parents and sister in a house on the edge of Lincoln, Nebraska. They then drove to the nearby small town of Bennet, where they robbed and killed a farmer. When Starkweather's car broke down, the man and woman who stopped to help were murdered and jammed in a food cellar. By the time the dust settled, ten innocent people were dead, and the city of Lincoln was in a state of terror. Schools closed. Men with rifles perched on the roofs of their houses. National guardsmen patrolled the street. Every few hours, there would come a knock on the door, and a voice would ask: "Everyone all right in there?" If there is a cultural version of PTSD, the town suffered from it. Starkweather and Fugate's killing spree and the resulting trials received world-wide coverage. It was the first mass killing of the modern age--a precursor of the awakening of the country from the slumber of the fifties to the rebellious, violent sixties. From Starkweather on, people in the Midwest locked their doors. Yet, in spite of this massive exposure, the story has dropped far from the national consciousness. With new material, new reporting, and new conclusions about the possible guilt or innocence of Fugate, the tale is an updated and definitive retelling"--

- Woodstock [videorecording] : three days that defined a generation / by Ephron, Jamila,television producer.; Goodman, Barak,television producer,screenwriter,television director.; Kleszy, Don,screenwriter.; Samels, Mark,television producer.; Ark Media (Firm),production company.; PBS Distribution (Firm),publisher.; Public Broadcasting Service (U.S.),broadcaster.;
- In August 1969, nearly half a million people gathered at a farm in upstate New York to hear music. What happened over the next three days, however, was far more than a concert. It would become a legendary event, one that would define a generation and mark the end of one of the most turbulent decades in modern history. Occurring just weeks after an American set foot on the moon, the Woodstock music festival took place against a backdrop of a nation in conflict over sexual politics, civil rights and the Vietnam War. A sense of an America in transition -- a handoff of the country between generations with far different values and ideals -- was tangibly present at what promoters billed as "An Aquarian Exposition: 3 Days of Peace and Music." Woodstock turns the lens back at the audience, at the swarming, impromptu city that grew up overnight on a few acres of farm land. What took place in that teaming mass of humanity -- the rain-soaked, starving, tripping, half-a-million strong throng of young people -- was nothing less than a miracle of teamwork, a manifestation of the "peace and love" the festival had touted and a validation of the counter-culture's promise to the world. Who were these kids? What experiences and stories did they carry with them to Bethel, New York that weekend, and how were they changed by three days in the muck and mire of Yasgur's farm?E.DVD ; widescreen presentation ; Dolby Digital 5.1.
