Old school / by Korman, Gordon.;
"Twelve. . . going on eighty? Dexter is twelve years old and lives at The Pines Retirement Village with his grandmother. He's been home-schooled by the residents since he was six -- until the day the truant officer shows up and announces that Dex has to go to the local public school. Dex does not fit in at middle school. He gets along better with senior citizens than he does kids his own age. He dresses like a grandpa and his taste in movies and music is decades out of date. Only a few students -- like Gianna Greco, a reporter at the school's newspaper looking for a bit story -- want to talk to him. For most, he is a weirdo . . . or a target. Dexter would do anything to get out of middle school and go back to his old life at The Pines. But when his wish finally seems to be coming true, his old and new worlds collide in a way that surprises everyone -- and Dexter most of all."--

Outdoor math : fun activities for every season / by Adbåge, Emma,1982-;
In this innovative book, Emma Adbage encourages children to get outside, where they can have fun interacting with the natural world while learning math. Adbage has created twenty-two outdoor activities, organized by season. Through play, children will learn about numeracy and arithmetic, as well as math concepts such as shapes, time, greater/less than, even and odd numbers, patterns and grids. The activities have simple-to-follow instructions and are accompanied by adorable illustrations that provide clear visual demonstrations. The natural materials required -- stones, pinecones, snowballs, worms -- are easy to find in many environments. Supplementary spreads introduce the numbers 1 to 10 and further explore addition/subtraction and multiplication/division, with simplified explanations and illustrated examples. Studies have shown that learning outdoors helps kids retain information and skills, and that physically active children perform better in a variety of subjects -- including math. This book could be used alongside other math coursework all school year, since the activities have direct curricular applications. While the thrust of the book is math, there are also science lessons here, particularly regarding the properties of nature and how things change during the four seasons. Many of the activities can be done in pairs or groups, promoting teamwork and cooperation.

Beg, borrow, or steal : a novel / by Adams, Sarah,1991-author.;
"Emily Walker hates having her carefully crafted world disrupted by anyone, most of all her legendary nemesis, Jack Bennett. He's the opposite of the wonderful heroes she dreams up in her double life as a romance writer, which is why Emily was perfectly happy when Jack left Rome, Kentucky, mid-school year with his fiancée. The last thing Emily saw coming was Jack's return at the start of the summer after calling off the wedding and ending his relationship, but he's here to stay -- as her colleague and her neighbor. Jack is glad to be back, eager to renovate his house and work on the next mystery novel under his bestselling pen name. But when he realizes he's now neighbors with the one woman who has always pushed his buttons, he discovers something he's even more excited about -- thwarting Emily and her petty plans to sabotage his return. With their chemistry-fueled animosity at an all-time high, Emily accidentally sends an email to their school's principal that could reveal her secret literary side hustle. She needs to steal back her manuscript, and Jack -- she hates to admit -- is just the man to help her. Surprisingly, he agrees. Will their unlikely alliance put an end to their rivalry? Or could it lead to a steamy plot twist they never saw coming?"--
