Shakedown : a novel / by Gingrich, Newt,author.; Earley, Pete,author.;
Mayberry and Garrett, introduced in the national bestseller Collusion, are caught in the middle of a deadly crisis with an impending nuclear bomb attack and little help from the government that sidelined them both. When an exiled Iranian scientist is assassinated in Washington, DC, the former FBI counterintelligence agent and ex-SEAL are pulled back into the world of clandestine ops--and the fate of the entire East Coast is at stake. Joining ranks with a heralded Mossad agent, Mayberry and Garrett pursue a skilled international killer hired to murder a legendary Israeli spymaster. Their pursuit draws them into an international conspiracy led by a power-hungry Russian oligarch intent on destroying Washington, DC, and the Navy's most important Atlantic base. The oligarch plots to unleash a nuclear onslaught first devised by the KGB but shelved by Kremlin leaders during the Cold War. On top of this, Iran's sudden offer to help the United States raises suspicions about its possible role in a global shakedown. With too many enemies emerging and too little time, the two Americans are forced to operate outside official channels to stay ahead of naive US politicians and foreign enemies out to entangle their efforts in red tape. Operating in an international tinderbox, Mayberry and Garrett must decipher which players are allies and which are posers--in time to thwart a cataclysmic nuclear attack on US soil and prevent an international incident that could ignite a third world war. And they must keep themselves alive.

Nikhil out loud / by Pancholy, Maulik,1974-;
"From the acclaimed actor and Stonewall Honor-winning author of The Best at It, Maulik Pancholy, comes a new middle grade novel about a gay Indian American boy who learns the power of using his voice. Thirteen-year-old Nikhil Shah is the beloved voice actor for Raj Reddy on the hit animated series Raj Reddy in Outer Space. But being a star on TV doesn't mean you have everything figured out behind the scenes... When his mom temporarily moves them to the small town in Ohio where she grew up to take care of Nikhil's sick grandfather, Nikhil feels as out of orbit as his character. Nikhil's fame lands him the lead in the school musical, but he's terrified that everyone will realize he's a fraud once they find out he can't sing. And when a group of conservative parents start to protest, making it clear they're not happy with an openly gay TV star being in the starring role, Nikhil feels like his life would be easier if only he could be Raj Reddy full-time. Then Nikhil wakes up one morning and hears a crack in his voice, which means his job playing Raj will have to come to an end. Life on earth is way more complicated than life on television. And some mysteries--like new friendships or a sick grandparent or finding the courage to speak out about what's right--don't wrap up neatly between commercial breaks." --From publisher.LSC

Writing Hawa. by Noori, Najiba,film director.; Noori, Rasul,film director.; Icarus Films (Firm),dst; Kanopy (Firm),dst;
Originally produced by Icarus Films in 2024.Filmed over five years, WRITING HAWA follows three generations of Hazara women from the same family in Afghanistan. With unique access and empathy, director Najiba Noori films her mother Hawa and niece Zahra in their aspirations to free themselves from patriarchal traditions. Forced into marriage at the age of 13 to a much older man, the now 52-year-old Hawa spends her time confined to the home to care for her ailing husband. Fed up with the drudgery and isolation of her daily life, Hawa sets out to open a small textile business. We follow her as she searches for traditional embroideries and turns them into modern dresses to sell in Kabul. She is eventually reunited with her granddaughter Zahra, having escaped an abusive father in the countryside. Both denied access to an education as children, Hawa takes Zahra under her wing as the two study together. But the looming takeover of the Taliban hovers in the background on TV screens and news reports, threatening to turn their lives upside down. WRITING HAWA is an essential testimony of women’s resilience in the face of oppression and the dreams cut short by the Taliban’s rapid takeover of Afghanistan in 2021.Mode of access: World Wide Web.

Green Border. by Holland, Agnieszka,film director.; Djanati, Behi,actor.; Altawil, Jalal,actor.; Ostaszewska, Maja,actor.; Wlosok, Tomasz,actor.; Kino Lorber (Firm),dst; Kanopy (Firm),dst;
Behi Djanati Atai, Jalal Altawil, Maja Ostaszewska, Tomasz WlosokOriginally produced by Kino Lorber in 2023.In the treacherous and swampy forests that make up the so-called “green border” between Belarus and Poland, refugees from the Middle East and Africa are lured by government propaganda promising easy passage to the European Union. Unable to cross into Europe and unable to turn back, they find themselves trapped in a rapidly escalating geopolitical stand-off. An unflinching depiction of the migrant crisis captured in stark black-and-white, this riveting film explores the intractable issue from multiple perspectives: a Syrian family fleeing ISIS caught between cruel border guards in both countries; young guards instructed to brutalize and reject the migrants; and activists who aid the refugees at great personal risk.Thirty years after Europa Europa, three-time Oscar® nominee Agnieszka Holland brings a masterful eye for realism and deep compassion to this blistering critique of a humanitarian calamity that continues to unfold. Winner of the Special Jury Prize at the 2023 Venice Film Festival, GREEN BORDER is a poignant and essential work of cinema that opens our eyes and speaks to the heart, challenging viewers to reflect on the moral choices that fall to ordinary people every day.Mode of access: World Wide Web.
